Questions About Placenta
Encapsulation in Westchester

How do I get my placenta home from the hospital?

We provide everything you need! Your Placenta Transport Kit includes an insulated cooler and storage supplies.

  • At the Hospital: Mention your plans to take home your placenta to your nurse and sign the release form.

  • After Birth: Your nurse will put your placenta into a rigid container and a biohazard bag. Your partner then places it in our cooler with fresh ice in the included ziplock bags.

  • When you’re out of Recovery: Our cooler is designed to keep your placenta cool temporarily – just until it can be put in your home refrigerator or freezer (which should be done within three hours of delivery), where it will stay until we arrive for your in-home processing.

Do I need to be home while you are processing my placenta?

Not necessarily! Our goal is to support your recovery, not add to your “to-do” list. While many parents are home resting with their newborns, it is certainly not a requirement. We are happy to provide an educational experience if you’d like to observe. Our encapsulators frequently coordinate with families who are still in the hospital so the capsules are ready and waiting when you get home. Whether you are in the next room or away from the house, we work quietly and efficiently so you can stay focused on your baby and your recovery.

How much kitchen space does in-home placenta encapsulation require? Do I need to provide the encapsulation specialist with anything?

We require very little space – only about 3 feet of your counter, an electrical outlet, access to one burner on your stovetop, and an empty sink – you don’t need to provide anything else. Our placenta encapsulation specialists bring all their own equipment, including a dehydrator, and ensure that your kitchen is sanitized before and after your placenta is processed using hospital-grade, food-safe sanitizers.

Is there a smell associated with the process?

Most of our clients report a mild, earthy aroma during the steaming and dehydration phases – similar to that of a roast. This scent is minimized due to the fact that we steam your placenta before dehydration compared to if we processed it raw.
